A Barbaric Yawp – over the roofs of the world

2–3 minutes

As an introduction – Walt Novak is an English teacher, published author, world-class surfer and award-winning journalist who got his start writing sometimes bizarre and sometimes cryptic, but always meaningful, short and long notes to Surfer Magazine about whatever had crawled up his butt in relation to the sport/art-form, surfing’s industry, and any and all things that might be related to such. We could read his insightful profundities each month in Surfer’s Letters to the Editor column. While not always understood, Walt still was never dismayed, and always had something to say, always carried on, and he was always published. Thanks to Surfer Magazine, We could count on Walt to deliver.

Walt’s words, his axiom, were specifically and simply this….

”Write it once, and write it right.”

Its a challenging ethos, but a no-fuss, no bother kind of thing: a simple don’t get your undies-in-a-bunch philosophy. Its something to aspire to, I’d say, but I’m just ordinary folk (I provide this as an attempt at a disclaimer), so must admit, even here, to using the basic spell-check tool in my writing, but for all I know, it could be durned-well evident that I never use grammar check (and so include no disclaimer for that one). Shoot, I’ve even been known to end sentences with a preposition.

What do you think?
