Below you’ll find series of paintings done since the Covid era began. I conveniently date that as January, 2020. This is a date that’s important to me not because of the notorious Coronavirus, but because this is when I decided to paint bigger, and to paint in oils, instead of acrylics. Doubtless, a momentous time for me. I have also done other singular paintings in this same time period, one-offs, orphans so to speak, but will have to find a different way to display those sometime in the future, but for now, those can be seen on my social media channels. I hope you enjoy what you see here.

ON THE BEACH

I call this series On the Beach. Each of the eight (four pictured above) are measured 80×100 cm (31x40inches) and done with oils on stretched canvas with the sides image wrapped so framing is optional, not required.

Just as a note: working in series seems to be much like being a musician putting an album together, or à writer building à book. One craft may be more difficult than another, but the créative spirit has the artist do thé work, and then he or she moves towards getting that work published (or, in other words, subsequently, SOLD).

SEVEN DAYS – A CREATION STORY

Seven Days was a monumental project. The story itself being a few thousand years old deserved something special, something grand, and so, grand became big, and big ended up measuring 190 x 160 cm for each canvas, executed, as usual, in oil paints. With this, I had to remind myself that its not so much what is written into this story that matters, but what’s not written. This is a story veiled in cryptic shadows, désigned to be an heuristic riddle, designed to stimulate, and designed not to entertain. It teaches us more through the questions it raises than the answers it provides. In our western tradition, this story … read more

MEN IN BOXES

I came up with the idea for this series during the constraining realities of cultural confinement caused by Covid and the restrictions demanded by the powers that be, No matter our age, color, sex, political or religious preferences, we have all had to endure this “enclosure” in one way or another. The realities of … read more

TWELVE ANDYS

This series was executed in the midst of my Men in Boxes series. I was tiring of the emotional context of that series and needed a diversion, a break from the hard work of painting, so I came up with this project which was something geared more towards the production side of things – a project which required … read more

CORONA SIX-PACK

This series is called “a Corona Six-Pack”, so named because it appeared with the beginnings of what used to be called Coronavirus but was renamed Covid-19. A lot of things changed with the beginning of this new era, including my work. It was at this point that I officially realized that I was no longer … read more

A Happy Winter Start and Some Pivoting News

Another year and that spin around the sun has passed by, happily, and another cycle enters while we ride the waves on the back of that old seagoat Capricorn holding tightly to its horns. A wild ride it is that Capricorn can offer up, a wild ride up to the abyss, the coldest depths of…

    Eagle Eye – It’s a Grey Area

There’s a general rule that has us understand that in painting we have the abstract and the representational. The abstract is something that refuses definition, and the represented can not only be defined, but is definition itself. Then, we have this meta-zone, a between-the-two, that serves in varying degrees, a bit of this and a…
