Originally, when asked to write a feature on water for Tubes Art Journal, I was hesitant and only a fart away from saying no. One might wonder why, especially if they know me, I’d be so determined not to address such an issue. After all, water has been a huge part of my life for nearly longer than I’ve been alive, being a surfer, sailor and fisherman. I think I felt that to share my feelings on the subject was just a bit personal. More so than just painting it, water, that is, writing would have me not just explore regions of the subject never examined deeply due to the “taking things for granted” issue, but I would be forced to reveal more deeply my most intimate feelings on the matter.
Anyway, my struggle and denial only lasted a short day before I accepted. This essay was published late 2020 in Tubes Painter’s Journal, number 16. It can be read here or downloaded as a PDF with the link below or from the Free Downloads page or column entry to the right. I hope you enjoy – it really is a fun one. Please share right and left as you wish and leave public or private comments – I’d love to hear your thoughts!
